Who We Treat at Lucent Orthodontics

Children

Early orthodontic evaluations can make a world of difference in your child’s long-term dental health. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist by age 7, when Dr. Shakourian can identify developing issues with jaw growth, tooth alignment, and bite function. When treatment is recommended, early intervention — also known as Phase 1 orthodontics — can guide healthy development, prevent more complex problems from forming, and set the stage for a lifetime of confident smiles. Many children do not need immediate treatment, and in those cases, Dr. Shakourian will simply monitor their growth at no additional cost until the right time to begin.

Teens

The teenage years are the most popular and often the most ideal time for comprehensive orthodontic treatment. By early adolescence, most permanent teeth have erupted and the jaw is still growing, creating the perfect conditions for efficient, effective correction. We offer teens a range of treatment options including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners, so every teen can find a path that suits their personality, their activities, and their lifestyle. Our team makes the experience fun, supportive, and empowering — because we know that a great smile can make a real difference during these formative years.

Adults

More adults are seeking orthodontic treatment today than at any other time in history, and we love being part of that trend. Whether you missed out on braces as a teenager, had previous treatment that has shifted over time, or simply want to improve your smile and oral health as an adult, it is never too late. We offer discreet options like ceramic braces and clear aligners that fit seamlessly into professional and personal life, along with the same flexible payment plans and insurance support that make treatment accessible for the whole family.

One Office for the Whole Family

One of the things our patients love most about Lucent Orthodontics is the convenience and comfort of having one trusted practice for the entire family. It is not uncommon for us to treat a child, a teen, and a parent all at the same time — and families tell us how much they appreciate being able to coordinate appointments, simplify logistics, and know that every member of their family is receiving the same exceptional standard of care.

When your whole family is under one roof, you also benefit from continuity. Dr. Shakourian gets to know your family’s dental history, your children’s growth patterns, and your individual goals over time, allowing her to provide smarter, more personalized recommendations for every family member.

Frequently Asked Questions — Who We Treat

  • What ages do you treat at Lucent Orthodontics?

We treat patients of all ages, from children as young as 7 for their first orthodontic evaluation through teens and adults of any age. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment as long as your teeth and gums are healthy.

  • Can my whole family be treated at your office?

Absolutely. Many of our families have multiple members in treatment at the same time. We love being a one-stop orthodontic home for the entire family, and we make coordinating appointments as convenient as possible.

  • My child still has baby teeth. Is it too early for an orthodontic evaluation?

Not at all. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children be evaluated by age 7, even while they still have baby teeth. An early evaluation allows Dr. Shakourian to monitor jaw growth and tooth development and intervene early if needed.

  • I am in my 40s and have never had braces. Is it too late?

It is never too late. We regularly treat adults in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. As long as your teeth and supporting bone are healthy, orthodontic treatment can deliver excellent results at any age.

  • Do you offer different treatment options for different age groups?

Yes. While the core treatment options — metal braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners — are available for most ages, the approach and recommendations may vary. For example, children may benefit from Phase 1 interceptive treatment, while adults often prefer discreet options like ceramic braces or clear aligners. Dr. Shakourian tailors every treatment plan to the individual.

  • Do you accept Medicaid for children’s orthodontic treatment?

Yes. Lucent Orthodontics accepts Medicaid for qualifying orthodontic cases. Our team will evaluate your child, determine eligibility, and manage the entire prior authorization process on your behalf.
